While they have shared roots in the south of France, they worked exclusively in Paris for several years. This is where Marine Delaloy and Paula Alvarez de Toledo inaugurated their architecture firm in 2015: JAUNE. A tip of the hat to their origins in Provence. We look back at the path trodden by the two co-founders.

This is where Marine Delaloy and Paula Alvarez de Toledo inaugurated their architecture firm in 2015: JAUNE. A tip of the hat to their origins in Provence. We look back at the path trodden by the two co-founders.

M. D.: Paula was born in Marseille and I was born in Aix-en-Provence. We have Mediterranean roots… That is where we grew up, where we go to recharge and where we will probably return to.

P. A. T.: Of course! It was an important period for us. Marine was at Studio KO and I was at the firm Joseph Dirand. I developed a methodical approach to the way we organise ourselves and oversee a work site...
M. D.: For me, in Paris, I learned to create on a human scale, in a concrete manner, far from large-scale textbook cases, which are more theoretical: drawing down to the smallest detail, sourcing specific materials… These lessons have been extremely useful for our current work, where we design private hotels and apartments, from Paris to La Paz or Lourmarin.

In the case of Le Moulin, its location in the heart of the village meant it had to be opened up, to be given even more warmth and comfort. By adopting the codes of a southern French holiday house, we made it feel more like a home than a hotel.
P. A. T.: In this quest for truth, the materials set the tone. At Le Moulin, given the Mediterranean architectural heritage, stone, lime plaster, straw and faience rapidly emerged as clear choices. Their vibrations and feel bring to life the sparse spaces, often with muted shades. They add soul.
M. D.: We are guided by authenticity. Our productions must have meaning in terms of their surroundings and history...
